Field Cottage is situated in the Wye Valley Aare of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Herefordshire, England.
An AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) is a landscape that is so valuable that it is protected by the government. With 14 National Parks in the UK, there are 46. With 25 percent of Britain’s lesser horseshoe bat population, the Wye Valley AONB protects the area’s limestone gorges and native woods as well as its historic legacy of hillforts, castles, and the first Cistercian Abbey in Wales.
Wye Valley AONB is maintained by a coalition of local residents and businesses, community organisations, government agencies, and other groups. The Wye Valley AONB Partnership’s mission is to protect and promote the exceptional attributes of the nationally protected environment so that we and future generations can coexist peacefully with the area’s diverse species and rich cultural history.
The River Wye which runs through the AONB near to Field Cottage, was chosen the nation’s favourite in 2010 because of its unadulterated beauty. The river begins in the highlands of mid-Wales and flows south for about 150 miles before it meets the Severn, where it is part of the border between Wales and England. From slightly south of Hereford to Chepstow, it meanders for 58 miles across the Wye Valley AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty).
