Getting to Field Cottage
Field Cottage sits on a single-track lane off the A49, between Ross-on-Wye and Hereford. The postcode alone will not get you to the gate, so here is the route that works, where to park, and what happens when you arrive.
Driving here
Do not rely on the postcode. It takes you too far up the lane, towards the farm. Search Google Maps for Wye Valley Holidays at Field Cottage Peterstow, or use the what3words address sings.ignore.rewriting.
Both routes meet at the same landmark: the Red Lion pub at Winter's Cross, on the A49. Once you can see the pub, you are a minute from the house.
- From the south
- Come off the Wilton Roundabout near Ross-on-Wye and head north on the A49 towards Hereford. It is about five minutes. You pass through Bridstow and Baileys Home Store, then Peterstow, with the Yew Tree Inn and the village store. As the village ends you reach Winter's Cross. At the Red Lion, turn left off the A49 down the lane towards Glewstone.
- From the north
- Head south on the A49 from Hereford, twenty to twenty-five minutes through a string of villages. You go through Harewood End and past Pengethley Farm Shop and Garden Centre as you come into Winter's Cross. At the Red Lion, turn right off the A49 down the lane towards Glewstone.
- The last stretch
- Follow the single-track lane for about a minute, then turn right at the small crossroads. Field Cottage is the first house on the right. Open the gate and drive in.
- Parking
- There is room on site for three or four cars, at the front and round the back of the house, and you can park on the lane as well if you arrive in several cars. There is a disabled parking spot. EV charging is a standard outdoor three-pin socket, switched from inside the house, so bring your adapter; we keep a Type 2 one here.
By train or bus
The nearest railway station is Hereford. From there it is a taxi of twenty to twenty-five minutes, or the 33 bus towards Ross-on-Wye, which stops at Winter's Cross by the Red Lion. From that stop it is five to ten minutes on foot to our door.
We will be honest with you: a car is by far the easiest way to get here, and easier still once you have arrived. The walks, pubs and farm shops worth your time are spread across the countryside, and the buses do not connect them.
Arrival and check-out
Check-in is from 16:00. It is self check-in with a lockbox, so there is nobody to meet and nothing to wait for. We send the code before you travel, along with the directions and everything else you need to let yourselves in.
Check-out is by 10:00. If you would like to arrive earlier or leave a little later, just ask. We can sometimes say yes, depending on the bookings either side of yours.
